IRCC Processing Times June 2026

The citizenship certificate processing time has increased to 15 months in June after Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s (IRCC) backlog grew by more than 11,600 applications in a single update, marking a significant increase in IRCC's June 2026 update.

The June 2026 report also revealed major improvements in several other immigration categories. These include work permits, super visas, and some permanent residence streams.

Citizenship Delays Continue To Grow

Citizenship certificates were the main highlight of this month's update, with the application inventory rising to approximately 82,000 cases after growing by more than 11,600 applications in a single reporting cycle.

For many applicants, a citizenship certificate is required to apply for a Canadian passport, replace proof of citizenship, confirm citizenship status for children born abroad, or complete other government and immigration processes.

Citizenship Processing Times

Application Type Processing Time
Citizenship Grant 13 months
Citizenship Certificate 15 months
Renunciation of Citizenship 7 months
Search of Citizenship Records 17 months

Citizenship grant applications remained stable at 13 months despite a growing inventory of more than 326,000 applications.

Atlantic Immigration Program Leads PR Improvements

The Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) recorded the biggest improvement in this month's update. Processing times dropped from 38 months to 26 months, the largest decrease among all permanent residence programs tracked by IRCC.

Other key permanent residence processing times include:

  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC): 7 months
  • Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP): 7 months
  • Express Entry PNP: 6 months
  • Non-Express Entry PNP: 13 months

Faster Work Permits And Super Visas

Temporary resident applicants saw some of the strongest gains this month. Inland work permit applications fell to 186 days, continuing a downward trend that has been visible throughout much of 2026.

Super visa applicants also benefited from shorter processing times:

  • India: 109 days
  • United States: 96 days
  • Pakistan: 73 days
  • Philippines: 34 days

These improvements could provide relief for families planning to bring parents and grandparents to Canada later this year.

Family Sponsorship Waits Remain High

Family sponsorship applicants saw fewer improvements. Current processing times include:

  • Spouse or common-law partner outside Canada: 16 months
  • Spouse or common-law partner inside Canada: 26 months
  • Parents and Grandparents Program: 32 months
