Canada held another Express Entry draw today. This time, IRCC targeted French-speaking candidates. The draw invited 4,500 people to apply for permanent residence.
Draw Details
Program: French language proficiency (Category-based)
Date: October 6, 2025
Invitations issued: 4,500
Minimum CRS score: 432
Tie-break date: June 13, 2025
What This Means for You
The CRS cutoff dropped to just 432 points. This is excellent news for French speakers.
This category-based draw accepts candidates from three programs:
- Federal Skilled Worker Program
- Canadian Experience Class
- Federal Skilled Trades Program
You needed French language skills to qualify. Your English scores did not matter for this draw.
Who Got Invited
To receive an invitation, you needed:
- A CRS score of 432 or higher
- Strong French test results (TEF or TCF)
- An active Express Entry profile
- Eligibility for FSW, CEC, or FST
The tie-break rule helped candidates with exactly 432 points. Only those who created their profile before June 13, 2025 got invitations.

You will need:

- Language test results
- Education credentials
- Work experience letters
Why French Matters
Canada wants more French speakers outside Quebec. The government runs regular French draws with lower scores.
French proficiency can boost your CRS in two ways:
- Extra points for French test scores
- Access to French category draws with lower cutoffs
Recent French draws had scores between 379 and 481 points. These are much lower than CEC draws at 534.
Comparing Recent Draws
Here is how the last few draws compare:
| Date | Program | Invitations | CRS Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oct 6, 2025 | French Proficiency | 4,500 | 432 |
| Oct 1, 2025 | CEC | 1,000 | 534 |
| Sep 29, 2025 | PNP | 291 | 855 |
| Sep 18, 2025 | Trade Occupations | 1,250 | 505 |
| Sep 17, 2025 | Education | 2,500 | 462 |
| Sep 4, 2025 | French Proficiency | 4,500 | 446 |
French draws consistently offer the lowest scores. They also invite the most candidates.
How to Improve Your French
Want better chances in future draws? Work on your French skills now.
Take an approved test:
- TEF Canada
- TCF Canada
Aim for higher scores in all four areas:
- Reading
- Writing
- Listening
- Speaking
Even basic French helps. You can earn extra CRS points with CLB 5 or higher.
Strong French scores (CLB 7+) give you many more points. They also qualify you for French category draws.
Other Ways to Boost Your Score
Not ready for French draws? Try these options:
- Improve your English test scores
- Gain more Canadian work experience
- Complete another degree or diploma
- Get a valid job offer with LMIA
- Apply for a provincial nomination (adds 600 points)
Provincial nominees need higher scores but guarantee success. Recent PNP draws ranged from 726 to 855 points.
Looking Ahead
IRCC holds Express Entry draws every few weeks. Each draw targets different groups.
Watch for:
- More French draws (happen monthly)
- CEC draws for Canadian workers
- Trade and healthcare draws
- PNP draws for provincial nominees
Keep your profile active and updated. Make sure your documents stay current.
